This is perfect Michael, I can see how you 'being in the moment' has enabled you to write something complex and sublime in such clear, simple language. 'I’ve hinted above that it can become embedded in your being, provided you actually do the practi…

I agree with all the sentiments you have expressed here Michael. When I was replying to your post, I was in a negative frame of mind, just in relation to my job, so this had largely coloured my reply. In the work environment, sometimes my thought pr…

Great interpretation of the genesis story, Michael and a such a simple way to look at life and to live it. Sometimes, for me, the easiest things seem the hardest to follow, this is probably because I am still in a sort of childish way, seeking excit…

Hi teresa, Welcome back! It was interesting reading your post. For some reason the words about 'trying daily to connect' and "trying to remember" and "trying to find balance" jumped out at me. I was reminded about my own deliberations about how to…

Michael, It's good to hear from you, the only reason I haven't posted anything recently is because although I feel selfish in asking questions alone, I don't feel I have enough 'good' or first hand information to share with everyone. My questions ha…

Whenever I am not besieged by anxieties and desires, I do also try to observe life objectively and try to find some space, it is a proper uphill struggle. I am trying to understand the statement, 'thy will be done..'

Is the word aspiration any better?

That is a good take on 'desire' Joanne, it is also a very mature attitude not to be attached to your desires, but indulge in it as if were a dream and not get disappointed if its not fulfilled. I should aspire to this.

After the various musings related to this post, I had to re - think my whole understanding of desire. When I first read Tahir shah's Caliph's House, I took it literally and thought the book somehow sort of promotes a sort of blatant materialism. You…

Far from this being rambling Michael, that is really thought provoking stuff, yes, you are absolutely right. Instead of trying everyday to overcome ingrained habits, I am trying to abdicate responsibility and looking for a magical cure. After postin…

Hi Rajan, It occurs to me that people with little or no spiritual interest can and do break bad habits with only awareness and reasoning (plus willpower!) That being the case, to what extent can the presence of bad habits be linked to the absence…

what are, if any, practices that enable one to break out of habits - things that you do repetitively, sometimes out of boredom, sometimes for comfort other times for a buzz , sometimes even to the detriment of your physical and mental well being, e.…

The way to a real teacher

Are there any accounts of any modern day seeker meeting with, and recognising, a teacher? and being accepted? A chronicle of their mind states whilst they are grappling with words, concepts, ideas?
Irina Tweedie's 'Chasm of fire' deals with this theme, but, this is more about her experiences under the guidance of her teacher than before she found him. I am interested in their experiences before this stage, what actually led them to the teacher.
From the above book;
'"Why did you come to me?" He a… Continue

meditation as psychotherapy

Is it harmful in the long run for one's spiritual development to use yoga and meditation techniques as psychotherapeutic tools? I have always been tempted to seek out a yoga instructor or meditation advisor to calm my psychological and emotional unbalance, but, been fearful that this may simply treat the superficial 'existential' crisis and create a false sense of well being. The doctors are always Prozac happy and I do not want to go down this route. Is it better, in the long run to persevere wi… Continue

Hello. I am glad to see you here again, over the last few days I was thinking about your last post, vaguely because I can no longer refer to it and my memory is very wobbly! I have recently been reading about freedom of choice and freedom from choice and how they relate to each other and in a way flip one to the other.
Best wishes etc
Jane
