I just logged on to hidden recess and noticed it had apparently been deleted. So I created this, just temporarily, to find out what is going on, and what, if anything, previous members might like to do.
Yeah I didnt mean for that to sound alarmest. I guess the situation just seemed a little inexplicable too me and I didnt want to make the wrong conclusions...and perhaps that's my learning :)
You might be able to contact him at eternal awareness via email there. Mind you, Mark seems to be on the point of shutting down EA, so maybe that won't work. My feeling is that whatever place James is in now, he will be doing just fine.
It seems there appears no further news. Having only just returned to Hidden Recess after having my attention drawn elsewhere, I was revelling most delightfully in the lovely blogs being posted and the very enjoyable tone of the conversations. I had the picture that James was choosing to take a bit more of a backseat and relaxed approach to HR rather than feeling he needed to "carry" it (my words). All seemed to be well from my limited perspective. Is anyone in contact with James outside HR, unfortunately I dont seem to have his email. I hope all is ok with him. Perhaps someone can check? Im not sure if this goes outside protocol or not, but would just like to know he is ok.
for a moment I thought this was some kind of practical joke or something like that. My apologies
I sensed you might be a little sceptical! ;-)
Honestly, it happened just as I described. I posted what must have been close to the last message on the old HR, and then only a short time later, tried to log on to the site only to find a message telling me that HR didn't exist.
I felt a little bereft as I have come to be so fond of the site, and so without a second thought re-created it. It wasn't that hard to do that because I had the old URL and that's all you need to recreate a new site with the old name. The first thing I looked for was the Floral theme, because for me that was part of the special character of HR.
I doubt you alone would have prompted James to pull the plug; I think we all had the sense he was teetering. If he has gone for good, it will be a very sorry matter, as I like everyone else hugely appreciated his input. Sometimes I liked to put counter opinions, it is true, but hopefully never with animosity.
We'll just have to see what transpires. If James wants to come back, even occasionally, to contribute, I know I'll not be alone in rolling out the red carpet for him.
I don't know whether we can maintain a spark here without him...
This shocked me. I'm not sure what to say except only the following. I've been lurking around lots and dropping by excitedly here every time. I remember James's post about a yard sale where the treasures weren't appreciated properly. As an online correspondence, I do want to appreciate the posts written as how it should be or expected to be or lift up the discussion a level beyond- every post was great to read - and since I couldn't, I know I was being a bad correspondence. But I really hope James won't stop his writing and sharing...
On the ads here though, using the Firefox browser + Adblock add-on will remove the ads and on almost every other sites too.
Again, that's all part of the built-in theme; apparently, James didn't create it. If you will go to your own page, and look under your photo, you will see an option to choose your photo or theme. Click on "Theme" and you will see all the options available. This one, Arabesque and all, is included. The theme name is "Floral".
There are a number of ready-built themes available - you may be able to see them when customising your own page. The One James used is the one I chose so that it would be familiar to everyone and I always liked it.
I haven't been able to get the fancy main header that James used - he may have piddled around with the HTML option in some way.
I've been tweaking the options a bit, to get it close to my memory of its appearance, but I've done nothing that isn't a standard option.
